Purpose
The Organization for Accreditation of Christian Science Care Facilities
(OACSCF) accredits Christian Science care facilities to maintain
high standards of Christian Science nursing care, quality of life,
and facility operation and safety.
Accreditation
OACSCF provides written standards and conducts thorough inspections
of facilities that seek accreditation. The standards and inspections
consider both the religious standards of Christian Science and
community standards for care and safety.
Christian
Science Nursing Services
Christian Science nurses will assist patients with activities
of daily living. Nursing care may include assistance with washing,
bathing, commoding and dressing; assistance with mobility or changing
position; bed care; cleansing and covering wounds; preparation
and modification of foods; and communication with family, friends
and a Christian Science practitioner. Nursing care provided by
Christian Science nurses does not include diagnosing; recording
and maintaining a record of symptoms or conditions; administering
medication, drugs, or herbal or vitamin-based remedies; using
or administering medically-oriented techniques, equipment and
technology; or manipulation, massages, or physical therapy.

and Medicaid

Insurance
Care at an accredited facility should be reimbursable for patients
whose health insurance policies cover Christian Science nursing
care in Christian Science nursing facilities. OACSCF will provide
accreditation verification to insurance companies when that is
needed.
Assurance
The care received at accredited Christian Science nursing facilities
is confirmed by third-party inspections offered by OACSCF to be
in accord with the highest Christian Science nursing and community
standards. The OACSCF will respond to complaints regarding an
accredited facility and will conduct a specific investigation
into any areas of concern.
